Bamboo Shrimp (Atyopsis moluccensis)

aka Fan Shrimp, Wood Shrimp, Flower Shrimp, Marble Shrimp

Found in SE Asia. Length: 2 -3 inches, snout-tail. Life span: in captivity, up to 5 years. 

Typically these freshwater shrimp have a white or cream colour base with beige stripes down running length wise over the body, may be red or pink if kept in groups.  Males typically will have thicker and larger forelegs while the legs on females will have a fairly uniform thickness throughout. Fan Shrimp are filter feeders. As they have no claws, their appendages end in fine feather like fronds. They use these fronds to collect micro organisms from the water column. 

Most, if not all specimens found in the aquarium trade have been wild caught in South East Asia…
